During Tuesday night monthly meeting members voted to add another tool to better serve the community of Meherrin and the surrounding areas. We voted to sell our back up Medi unit Medic 5-2 which is already sold, which the money that we get from Medic 5-2 and go towards the new utv. The Utv is a 2013 Polaris 800xp. It will take sometime to design the Utv to our needs. So far we are going to design it for Fire and EMS. A big thank you to Vest Sales, Inc. for purchasing Medic 5-2 and to Taylor-Forbes for selling the Utv to us.

Hook & Ladder Softball Tournament will be hosted by the Meherrin Volunteer Fire & Rescue on October 20-21 of 2018. Members with the Meherrin Fire/Rescue have put countless hours to remodel the engine that we have purchased from the Farmville Fire Department and it has been in service for the last 6 months. This purchase was made to better our community and to fulfill our needs on the Department. Thanks to all the members that helped make this truck work best for us.
On May 4th, Asst, Chief Pyle and Engineer Nash were on hand at the Farmville Moose Lodge to receive a $500 donation on behalf of the department. The Moose Lodge made several donations to area fire and rescue agencies. This donation will greatly assist in helping each department provide services to their areas. CFS (Container First Services) made a donation to all Lunenburg County Fire & Rescue services. CFS recently purchased the Lunenburg County Landfill and its dumpster operations, with a $50,000 donation to the county. After a new press box/concession stand was built for Central High School, the remaining money was donated to the local emergency services. Company 5 members reflected back on 9/11 and paid respect at several local memorials today. The department was represented in Richmond for the Richmond Remembers, 9/11 Stair Climb, hosted by the City of Richmond Fire Department. Members climbed a total of 110 stairs, just as the 343 FDNY Firefighters did in 2001. The second event was a memorial planting at Twin Lakes State Park. SQUAD 5 IN QUARTERS STATION 5 MEMBERS TOOK DELIVERY OF SQUAD 5 ON JUNE 26TH FOLLOWING THE ARRIVAL MEMBERS HAD A COOKOUT AND BEGAN THE PLANS TO PLACE THE UNIT IN-SERVICE. THE TRUCK COMMITTEE AND LINE OFFICERS ARE PLANNING ON PLACING SQUAD 5 IN SERVICE AROUND THE END OF JULY. MEMBERS ARE WORKING HARD TO EQUIP AND TRAIN ON THE APPARATUS.

Members flew to Appleton on May 24th for a post paint inspection of Squad 5. A few minor changes were made to the truck but overall the truck is well on its way to being completed on June 10th. The truck committee is planing on going for final inspection on June 9th-11th, and hope to have the truck in station near the end of the month.
Squad 5's finial specs were approved last week and production should be started by now. We have been told a rough delivery date of the first of June. A few members will be flying to Appleton mid-production and then the whole committee should make the finial trip shortly there after for finial inspection.

The 4PM Burn Law is now in effect and will not expire until April 30, 2010. What is the 4 p.m. Law? The 4 p.m. Law is a ban (or restriction) on open air burning before 4 o'clock in the afternoon if your fire is within 300 feet of the woods or dry grass which can carry the fire to the woods.
