Since 1954, the men and women of our agency have continuously provided the highest possible levels of fire and emergency services protection. We strive to meet the emergency services demands of our ever-changing community.

Meherrin Volunteer Fire & Rescue is a 24/7 full service public safety agency. Our department provides fire suppression, rescue/extrication services, public education, fire prevention, and both Basic & Advanced Life Support Emergency Medical Service in both  Lunenburg and Prince Edward Counties.  We utilize a combination of volunteers and paid staff to provide 24 hr. coverage to our citizens & visitors. 

Hopefully, you or your family will never require our services, but if you should, rest assured that our dedicated and trained volunteer &  paid staff members will do everything in their power to assist you in your time of need.

During Tuesday night monthly meeting members voted to add another tool to better serve the community of Meherrin and the surrounding areas. We voted to sell our back up Medi unit Medic 5-2 which is already sold, which the money that we get from Medic 5-2 and go towards the new utv.

Members with the Meherrin Fire/Rescue have put countless hours to remodel the engine that we have purchased from the Farmville Fire Department and it has been in service for the last 6 months. This purchase was made to better our community and to fulfill our needs on the Department.

On May 4th, Asst, Chief Pyle and Engineer Nash were on hand at the Farmville Moose Lodge to receive a $500 donation on behalf of the department. The Moose Lodge made several donations to area fire and rescue agencies.

CFS (Container First Services) made a donation to all Lunenburg County Fire & Rescue services. CFS recently purchased the Lunenburg County Landfill and its dumpster operations, with a $50,000 donation to the county.

Company 5 Fire responds for landing zone request from Charlotte Co. Rescue at the Meherrin helipad. VCU LifeEvac 1 responded for patient care. Company 5 operated with Squad 5 and Support 5 with 7 personnel.

Company 5 responded to Washington Street in Meherrin for the report of smoke from a vent in a residence. Engine 5 arrived to find a single story structure with nothing showing. Investigation by members revealed no smoke or fire evident, that a heater was activated and caused the initial smoke.

Company 5 Fire & Rescue along with Keysville Vol. Fire Dept, Charlotte Co. Sheriffs Office and Virginia State Police responded in front of the Keysville Drive Inn for a tractor trailer accident off the roadway.
